Oh my dear fellow women, when will you understand that life isn’t about outer beauty!
I refer to all genders too of course, but sadly this is predominantly a trait connected to people who identify as women, started because way back in time some woman decided she needed to make herself more attractive to men, or her particular man, and it became a trend. And what a mind boggling massive trend it’s become!
The global skin care market is worth $145.3 billion and that’s not counting hair care, nails, perfumes, facials, cosmetic surgery etc – just skin care alone!
Now while this is considered great for the economy, companies and people are making insane amounts of money while poisoning individuals, the earth and it’s non human creatures, on land and at sea. Trashing, damaging and killing nature and it’s creatures – human and non human, with synthetic chemicals, (many are even carcinogens) plastics and other chemically treated packaging.
It’s no surprise that as women demanded more products that promised to enhance their beauty, more and more companies figured out cheaper ways to manufacture and better ways to market and promote their products to create bigger profits. It’s no secret that most of a major company’s spend is on advertising, not on the actual ingredients in the bottle. Sadly, these are often inferior, synthetic chemicals that do little or nothing to promote healthy skin and often cause damage. They may throw in a few plants and herbs so they can truthfully say in their marketing that it contains ‘age-defying, youthful’ components, but those plants are usually listed right at the end of the ingredient list, which means there is no more than 1%-3% of that substance in the bottle. It could be compared to dunking a tea bag in a huge vat of liquid – it would do nothing.
It’s 100% true that beauty does not come from outside yourself but from within you. There’s many a celebrity/famous person, who is deemed beautiful and ‘worshipped’ because of how they look, but who has a less than friendly disposition and manner and is disliked by many. There’s also some amazingly talented people who are considered ‘plain’ and are sometimes actually called this in the media, but they have the most beautiful personalities and are filled with laughter, gratitude and genuine warmth towards others. People feel uplifted in their presence. I know which one I’d call truly beautiful!
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with aiming to nurture and protect your lovely natural skin and hair, but at what cost to your pocket and nature and all it’s magnificent creatures, especially when there is no need.
The global market value of natural and organic skin care products was expected to grow from almost 4.75 billion dollars in 2019 to roughly 7.2 billion dollars by 2024. Make sure you choose wisely and support those companies working hard to do no (or less) harm. Read the labels and always look for the Certified Organic accreditation. (See my Why Choose Organic page in Menu for more info).
Don’t be fooled!
You are a beautiful being filled with the potential to be, do and have all you can imagine. You are a magical creation and that’s enough. You are part of nature, our planet earth and the whole universe. How awesome is that! Go about your day knowing how amazing you are and that what you do is a bonus. But here’s where it’s vitally important. Because you’re an integral part of a huge eco system, make sure your choices are helping to sustain all life and not harming.
Say no to fake advertising claims promising their products will make you feel and look better. Say no to synthetic chemicals that harm the earth and all of its inhabitants – human and non human and tune in every day to what a wonderfully beautiful, natural being you already are.
Smile, be kind, make kind choices and Every Day Gets Better.

Thank you, Wendy. I’m glad to see that some packaging is becoming more eco-friendly, too, biodegradable. We can’t recycle everything yet where I live, so it’s good to know the things we have to throw out won’t cause any (or much) harm.

Same in Aus Sara. The whole recycling process is ineffective and needs a big overhaul. So much plastic ends up in landfill! With Miessence, even the packaging inside the box it’s despatched to the customer in, is made from potato starch so can go in the compost. 😀👍
