Seems everywhere you turn these days there’s another article about the practice of Mindfulness. There’s more and more teachers popping up, more YouTube vids, countless people claiming it’s changed their lives and it’s even being taught in (some) schools. There’s much evidence demonstrating how and why it’s become so popular.
But I can only write from my own experiences so that’s what I’m sharing here.
Practicing mindfulness has helped me:
- To be more awake and aware of myself throughout each day. This means I’m able to respond, rather than react to whatever occurs.
- To sleep more soundly and peacefully. I’ve always had trouble either getting to sleep, or waking with anxiety during the night, but I now rarely have either of those issues.
- To wake in the morning feeling calm and ready for my day.
- To respond to others with more compassion and loving kindness. I’m now more tolerant and forgiving of things and people I ‘dont like’.
- I feel more at peace with things that used to drive me crazy. I’m still passionate about issues dear to me, but I’m no longer a hothead.
- I’m calmer and I think more clearly than I’ve ever done before.
- I worry less and when I catch myself worrying, I can respond and feel calm and confident that everything is working out just as it’s meant to be.
- I notice, almost immediately, when I’m making up ‘stories’ about what I think I can and can’t do with my life. I notice my self doubts and can change them to feeling confident I’ll take the right action to be and do what I want.
- I make calmer, wiser decisions.
- I’m happier. Happier from within, not dependent on outer things or other people to entertain me.
- I’m no longer regretting things from my past and if they do pop up, I’m kind and loving towards myself and my thoughts of anyone else involved are forgiving and compassionate.
- I have gained a deep sense of trust and faith that I’ll be ok, no matter what, and therefore I rarely experience anxiety – this is huge as I’ve suffered anxiety for as long as I can remember.
I’m sure there’s probably many more benefits I’ve experienced but Mindfulness has become so much a natural part of my life now that I’m not focussing much on how I was before, which brings me even more peace.
When I have positive experiences, I believe it’s my responsibility to share so I highly recommend the practice of Mindfulness. I believe Mindfulness can help people to have a happier, more fulfilling life.
