Following on from “When times are Tough”.
When you are experiencing times when you feel like giving up because it seems all too hard, it is especially important to (a) know what makes you stronger and (b) know what helps you feel and cope better and (c) take specific action! If you are not completely clear on these things, how will you deal with tough times?
Indeed, how will you effectively live a happy life and enjoy a rewarding and fulfilling journey?
Stop reading and grab a pen and paper!
Now begin making a list of all the leisurely things you like to do that are simple, don’t cost much money, are healthy and can be done immediately without depending on someone else. Just the things you like to do, not what you think you should do. Of course, if your budget allows, you can also add things that require larger sums of money and are perhaps not as simple to achieve immediately and may need some forward planning, but predominantly I’m talking about those things that are in your own environment that are easily accessible and bring you comfort, peaceful feelings and a sense of joy.
Giving yourself pleasurable time away from your day to day activities and/or problems makes you stronger and will assist you to face things squarely and quit avoidance and procrastination. Claiming confusion can lead to avoidance! Claiming times of quietness and joyful reflection in your day brings more clarity and confidence.
For me, it’s always the beach, a quiet park or gentle gardens with dog/dogs by my side. No matter what is going on for me I find relief from problems, worries and anxieties by spending time in the quietness of nature. It restores my confidence to deal with whatever I need to deal with whether it’s something that I’m finding overwhelmingly difficult or something I simply need to make a (smaller) decision on.
Now, choose one or two of these things from your list that you will do on a daily basis and do them! Don’t put them off! If you don’t think you have the time, then you really need to do them even more! Doing what brings you joy and peace is a positive investment in your health and happiness.
It is almost impossible to make healthy, life supporting choices in a strung out, stressed out and frazzled state of mind. This is when we are in danger of making choices that may bring about an even more challenging situation than what you are currently experiencing.
With a happier, more peaceful mind, you will have a calmer approach and this will then bring about a more positive result. A result you want – not one you don’t want.
