Have you noticed that at this time of year especially, many people are unhappy. Many are full of tension and ready to snap at the slightest provocation. If you need proof just go to your local shopping centre carpark and watch the goings-on for awhile!
I find this pretty sad actually. Many so-called “accidents” occur around the Christmas Season for obvious reasons and shouldn’t have happened at all. Most car accidents happen because someone wasn’t paying close enough attention to the task at hand – driving. The Police forces have to form special task forces just to remind people to slow down and concentrate on driving safely.
Should Christmas be a stressful time? And who’s fault is it when people get out of control and sometimes even panic because everything isn’t going perfectly, as planned, for their Christmas celebrations? We are so conditioned by consumerism to buy, buy, buy at Christmas and further contribute to the madness of spending, on gifts that most likely won’t even be appreciated and will one day most likely end up in landfill. Is it society’s fault or can the blame lie with the lack of sound judgement by humans?
Sure, celebrate the Season with loved ones, enjoy the Spirit of the special time of year, but let’s ditch the chaos once and for all. It serves no purpose except to make people feel temporarily good about themselves because they “did the right thing” and shopped until they were too exhausted to continue or their credit cards were full and transactions were declined.
So what’s important to you? What do you value and how will you acknowledge your special values at Christmas?
As my values all lie with nature, animals, peace, good health and loving and caring relationships, I don’t participate in the Christmas insanity. My values lie with making up my own mind about how I feel over issues that are presented to me. My values lie with not conforming to what we are led to believe we should conform to, unless it’s something I truly want to do. And my values especially lie with being as peaceful, calm and happy as I can be on a daily basis so I may enrich people’s lives with warmth and positive energy and contribute well to society.
So as the “BIG DAY” approaches, may you make wise choices and stay true to your values and hopefully this will mean that you spend some quiet times of reflection on the sweetest things a human life can experience. And I don’t mean having another slice of chemically enhanced, saturated fat plum pudding!
With thanks for being a part of Every Day Gets Better Blog and with love to all and may you enjoy a wonderfully happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!
